Chavivim Headquarters Destroyed in Structure Fire

A fire at the Chavivim headquarters on John Street in Spring Valley destroyed the building and the dispatch equipment inside it. The blaze started in the basement boiler room and spread up to the second-floor residential apartment.

Eight fire departments — Spring Valley, Hillcrest, Monsey, Nanuet, Orangeburg, South Spring Valley, West Haverstraw, and West Nyack — worked the scene for about an hour to bring it under control.

The Monsey Fire Department RAC Unit and Chavivim volunteers supplied cold drinks and food to firefighters during the operation.
