Rockland Chavivim Unveils New Service Vehicle and Electric Vehicle Charger
Rockland Chavivim brought a new response pickup and a mobile EV-charging trailer into service at a ribbon-cutting on Sunday, expanding the response fleet to four primary units plus an auxiliary mobile power trailer. Dozens of volunteers turned out for the unveiling.
The new pickup adds heavier-duty capability to a fleet that, until now, had leaned on fly cars for most calls. It's built for fuel delivery, winching, and vehicle recovery — snow extractions, ditch recoveries, detached trailers, and stuck vehicles all fall under its purview, freeing the fly cars to stay on rapid-response duty.
The mobile EV charger, mounted on a towable trailer, replaces the slower generator-based workaround the division had used to assist electric vehicles stranded with depleted batteries. Volunteers can now bring a real charge to the scene anywhere in Rockland County, compatible with multiple EV models, and the trailer doubles as on-scene power for extended operations.
