Chavivim Joins Rockland Hazmat Response at Route 59 Chemical Spill
A chemical spill at the Valley Cycle Shop on Route 59 in Monsey drew an extended multi-agency response — and Rockland Chavivim spent the day on scene, keeping food and drink flowing to the responders working the call.
A Multi-Agency Hazmat Response
The Rockland County Hazmat Task Force coordinated the response, with fire crews from Nyack, Spring Valley, and West Haverstraw all deployed to the scene. EMS evaluated an individual who had inhaled fumes from the spill.
A Long Call
As the incident stretched several hours, the scene drew a steady presence of personnel working through the heat. Chavivim volunteers organized food and beverages, keeping hazmat crews, firefighters, and agency staff fed and hydrated for the duration of the operation — the kind of behind-the-scenes work that doesn't make the headline but keeps a long call sustainable.
A Quiet Kiddush Hashem
Chavivim coordinator David Friedman said the team was glad to be in the role: "We are always here to serve the community. We were all glad to be able to help out and make a true kiddush Hashem to so many local and state agencies at once."
Thank you to the Rockland County Hazmat Task Force, Nyack FD, Spring Valley FD, and West Haverstraw FD for the partnership on scene.
